1xINTERNET workshop in Conil

In October 1xINTERNET held the first of the three company workshops that will take place instead of our usual annual end of year company gathering. Employees from Germany, Hungary and Iceland travelled to our office in the Spanish coastal town of Conil. 

Even though Covid has not changed the way we work it has affected our people meeting each other. As a company with offices in Frankfurt, Berlin, Reykjavik and Conil and more than 60 people working in seven countries, we have always had a strong remote culture but at the same time we have encouraged our people to visit different locations and planned regular meet-up for the whole company to get together as a team.

Our scheduled 1xINTERNET meetup this year was supposed to take place in Iceland but got cancelled and decision was made to split our annual get together into three smaller meetups between three of our office locations.Those who could, were encouraged to travel to one of our offices and meetup up with those working near these local office hubs. 

The theme of the first workshop in Conil was Communicate and Connect. We talked about how we communicate as a company and discussed the tools we use and how we interact with them. People engage with technology differently and we respect this, the insight we gained was that although there are challenges to communication we share a purpose in delivering great digital products. 

There is space to embrace different styles of communication within the guidelines we have as a company. 1xINTERNET is a team with a shared enthusiasm for digital technologies and passion for efficient procedures which we work collaboratively to improve; the workshop helped to clarify these shared goals and bring a greater empathy for and understanding of our diversity of expression.

There was also time to reflect and celebrate our shared achievements at 1xINTERNET, recent successful launches and exciting projects being developed using ever evolving technologies. But in the end the resounding conclusion of the weekend was that it is SO good to meet people in person. Relationships are forged through our collaborative digital work but there is nothing quite like the connections that come by meeting in person. 

All this came with a huge helping of Spanish hospitality, homemade tortillas and traditional cakes brought to the office by the Spaniards coming from their pueblos. We shared an exquisite meal on the beach, watching the sunset together with a beer, the thick scent of dama de noche in the air. Conil is a small coastal town with a big heart and a warm welcome, offering a relaxing change of environment for those coming from Northern European climates. 

We are developers, business managers, project managers, designers and marketing specialists, we are 18 nationalites, we celebrate diversity of expression, we are 1xINTERNET!
